I picked up a few dozen tulip, hyacinth and daffodil bulbs from Home Depot. The planting time was mentioned as December for my area (9a). The packet does not mention about refrigerating it. So I just planted them (Dec 13th) as is about 4-6 inches deep, with bone meal and lots of compost. I hope these bulbs have already been ‘cooled’? Do I need to be worried?

If you planted them in the ground – as I assume you did, they will be fine. You should have a pretty nice display come spring.
If you have planted any of them in pots to be forced – they need to be chilled in the refrigerator for about 12 weeks after they have been potted up. This will give them time to develop a root system. After the twelve weeks you can remove the pots from the fridge, say, every week – to have pots of continuous bloom.

Bulbs such as these are not “cooled” prior to sale, and often in fact have been allowed to sit in a warehouse where they may have been exposed to extremes of hot or cold temperatures. This may stress them and in some cases they may have started to sprout already from it. But as a rule these bulbs do not need to be “cooled” prior to planting so you should enjoy a nice colorful spring display from them. After they are finished blooming just leave them in the ground, cut off the spent flower spikes, and at the end of the growing season either dig them up to store for next year, or even better leave them in the ground and wait for next years flower show.
